He also works Cal baseball games as scoreboard operator, pitch clock timer, and works alongside the statistician. Yuen also works with Cal Football. Octavian was a total rockstar for us this Summer. There was not a job he did not perform extremely well, from inputting and collecting stats to livestreaming and being our stadium announcer to setting up cameras or preparing data reports.

Channing is from the east bay and attends UC Merced where he is a current data science and analytics major. Channing played a vital role in our day to day operations. He was a key part of our stats and analytics as well as Synergy cameras setup and uploads. Channing came to the ballpark every day with great energy and a can do attitude! D

Kyle was one half of our play by play/color commentary "Dynamic Duo"! Floyd brought his professionalism and diligence to every game this past Summer. His unique voice, articulateness, as well as time spent gathering pertinent info was remarkable and really helped set us apart. We strongly believe we had the most entertaining and talented duo in the CCL north and Kyle was a huge part of that!
Floyd is pursuing a career in sports broadcasting and we know he will do well wherever that journey takes him.

Ethan a native of Highland Park IL came to the Merchants by way of Medill school of journalism at Northwestern University. Ethan came to us hungry for opportunity. The fact that he came half way across the country and found his own housing and transportation should tell you a lot about this mans commitment to his craft.
Segall was nothing

The fact that he came half way across the country and found his own housing and transportation should tell you a lot about this mans commitment to his craft.
Segall was nothing short of amazing in the booth, on our broadcasts, and conducting interviews. His knowledge and experience were invaluable to the program. Ethan was conversational yet authoritative. His passion, versatility, and deep preparation shined through. Segall's ability to paint a picture of the game and work seamlessly with his partner really helped make our broadcasts the most enjoyable to listen to. We are thankful and grateful for all of our interns input and impact on the Merchants. We are excited to see what they all do next! #Merk4life

Coach Mills is a true Merchant. From 2011-2016 Mills was the OF coach, 1st Base Coach, and main recruiter for the Merchants. With over 145 wins and counting, Mills was also a big part of the Merchants back to back Championship runs in 2013 & 2014.
Moving to Alameda in 1981 at the age of 6. Mills attended St. Joseph's Notre Dame High School where he played Varsity Baseball from 1989-1992 under SJND Hall of Fame Head Coach Ray Freitas and HOF Asst Coach Pete Piombo. In 1991 Mills was named to the Cal-Hi All State Team and many other postseason all star rosters. In 1992 SJND finished top 5 in the state with a record of 25-4.
Coach Mills spent the next 5 years playing college baseball with stops at the University of San Francisco, Seminole State in OK, Hawaii, and Sacramento State.
In 1997 Coach Mills hung up his playing cleats and went to work for the Federal Government. Set to retire in September 2025, Coach Mills may consider coaching on a full time basis.
IN HIS OWN WORDS:
"This Program means a lot to me because it is the oldest existing Summer baseball program in Alameda (Little League, Babe Ruth, American Legion, are all gone at the HS and above levels). I take great pride in being a part of this program. Alameda is a true "Baseball Town". For most of my life its had a population of less than 70,000 yet we have had a long list of talent come off this Island. That list continues to grow. The Merchants have played their part in that history and Im just proud to be a part of that legacy."
- Dan Mills

Coach Chris Dean returns to the Merchants in 2025 after 10 years. Chris brings a wealth of experience & knowledge to the program. Originally drafted by the Seattle Mariners in the 11th round of the 1992 MLB June Amateur Draft out of Hayward HS. Dean would go on playing 2 years at Seminole State College in Seminole OK where he was named 2x All American in 1993 & 1994. In 1993 he would again be drafted in the 20th round of the MLB Draft. Returning to Seminole St. in 1994 Dean was named NJCAA National Player of the Year. He would go on to sign with the Seattle Mariners that year.
Chris's connection to the Merchants actually began back in 1992 during a high school NCS playoff game. Dean's Hayward HS team would square off and win vs Coach Dan Mills St. Joes HS team that year. Chris also switch hit for the first time that game and went yard from the left side in the 1st inning! That next Fall Chris and Dan would become teammates at Seminole State and have remained brothers ever since.
Originally helping coach the Merchants to back to back Golden State Collegiate League Championships in 2013 & 2014. From 2015-2017 Dean was part of the coaching staff at Chabot College under Head Coach Steve Friend. 2015 would also mark the year Dean partnered with Swagger Athletics coaching the youth. He went on to coach with them for the better part of 10yrs. Coach Dean has also spent time coaching at the HS level. 6 years at Woodside Priory HS in Portola Valley, 2 years at Gunn HS in San Jose, and 1 year at James Logan HS in Union City. Chris is currently coaching at Bishop O'Dowd HS in Oakland Ca where he has been since 2025. You can also find Coach Dean coaching with Headfirst's youth teams where he has been coaching on and off for over 20 years.
"I have had a lot of cool experiences in my time playing this beautiful game. I'm just blessed to pay it forward"
-Chris Dean

After coaching the Alameda Anchors in 2023 and the Merchants last Summer in 2024 Marciano returns to the Island for 2025 to continue what he started.
Congratulations to the entire Conejo Oaks organization on winning the 2024 California Collegiate League Championship. The Oaks play their home games at Cal Lutheran University's Ullman Stadium/Sparky Anderson Field in Thousand Oaks, CA.
